Your journey through the byways of our three county experience will plunge you deeply into a portion of the arts world you may never have taken time to visit. TIME is the key word, we want you to experience an authentic journey where you take time to sit on our front porches while you enjoy a cup of tea and a memorable conversation … enjoy dinner, taste wine or simply watch the world go by … for just a moment!
As with all tours, your direction of travel and arrival time will allow us to best determine your route through this amazing three county cultural experience. We will customize your trip to include starting at your closest point of arrival and make sure you experience all this package has to offer prior to your return home.
Arrival Day: We will plan on your mid-day arrival in Corning and start with a visit at the world famous Corning Museum of Glass. This will be an experience you’ll not soon forget as you watch glassblowers work their magic. Your schedule allows for a self guided tour along with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the museum, where you can see one of the largest collections of glass in the world. You will have time to shop in the gift shop and view the beautiful Steuben Ware and don’t forget to check out the Tiffany Window! From here we’ll check let you get checked in at Hillcrest Manor. Hillcrest was built in 1890 by George Abbott, a partner in the Hoare Glass Company. This neoclassic mansion is filled with antiques, glass art and western art and is truly a museum in itself.
Take time to freshen up – then head for historic Market Street in Corning’s Gaffer District. You can browse the many glass and antique shops at your leisure, watch artisans at work and enjoy the galleries and museums. Your Gaffer District gift certificates are good at any of the amazing restaurants Corning has to offer whenever the urge for dinner strikes. You have no schedule to keep tonight so enjoy a nightcap or some local entertainment prior to turning in.
Day Two: Start your day with breakfast, and then depart for a day of adventure and fun. We’ll make a quick stop at Antiques at the Establishment, a multi dealer antique shop located in an 1868 former church graced with Tiffany studio windows. From there you’ll get a breathtaking view of the Tiffany designed, First Presbyterian Church in Bath – one of only four in the United States whose interior is completely designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany, and we’re off for a scenic drive to visit Artizann’s—Gifts from the Finger Lakes, a unique shop nestled in Naples, offering original artwork and distinctive gifts created by over 175 Finger Lakes artisans. Glass, pottery, metal, wood, jewelry and so much more … while you linger, Buttercups Bakery is right next door serving coffee and homemade desserts … don’t forget to look for the display of teacups on the wall! It’s off for a quick stop, in Cheshire Union Gift Shop and Antique Center to view the glass and antique collection, and then lunch on the porch at Bristol Harbour Golf Resort with a spectacular view. A leisurely drive north will find us at the Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park where you can enjoy nine themed gardens within the 52 acres of the original Fredrick Ferris Thompson Estate dating back to 1863. After you wander through the gardens, you will be served tea on the mansion porch.
Just a quick trip down the street you’ll find the Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum. The Mansion at Granger Homestead is filled with Tiffany Chandeliers and the collection of tea cups and china will give you a glimpse into the elegance of dining in the 1800’s. Nearly 70 horse drawn carriages are on display completing your journey into the past! Check in at the Inn on The Lake, freshen up and enjoy a tour and tasting at the New York Wine and Culinary Center. Filled with works from local artist this amazing setting will give you a look at both the culture and agriculture of the region. Enjoy dinner at the Holloway House, an 1808 Wayside Tavern before returning to the hotel. The evening is yours to lounge on the porch by the lake and enjoy the serenity.
Day Three: After a great night’s sleep and a full breakfast, our first stop of the day will be the famous Rose Hill Mansion, which is a National Historic Landmark and is considered one of the finest examples of Greek Revival Architecture in the United States. Built in 1839, the mansion has 26 rooms, of which 21 are furnished in the then-popular Empire style and filled with glass, art and an amazing porch or two! We’ll take a scenic drive out Routes 5 & 20 through Seneca Falls, home of The Women’s Rights Movement and Memorial Day! Our first stop in Auburn will be at the Willard Memorial Chapel. The Chapel interior showcases 14 opalescent nave windows, a nine-paneled rose window, nine Mooresque-styled chandeliers, a large mosaic bronze and gilt tablet, hand-carved furnishings of inlaid oak, a ceiling with gold leaf stencils and extensive mosaic flooring. This is the only complete chapel interior known to exist featuring a total religious Louis Comfort Tiffany design … then its lunch on your own at the Sunset Restaurant. After lunch, another Tiffany treasure awaits at Westminster Presbyterian Church which offers a look at a beautiful 1910 landscape window by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The Rainbow Window is a prime example of Tiffany's landscape windows, rare among religious commissions and considered his supreme achievements in stained glass. Our last stop prior to checking in will be the Cayuga Museum of History and Art where we will find a Tiffany Stained Glass Window as part of the historic mansion, commissioned by Caroline and Georgiana Willard.
Check in at your host hotel and freshen up for dinner. Dinner tonight is at the historic Springside Inn where you will enjoy a delightful meal and a great view from the porch.
Day Four: After breakfast, you’ll depart for home but not without the unique experience that is MacKenzie-Childs, maker of world-renown majolica tableware, home furnishings and more. You will start with the video tour in the visitor’s center, where a 15 minute presentation takes you behind the scenes as you follow these talented artisans in the step by step creation of a signature MacKenzie-Childs piece. Next, tour the farmhouse … exquisitely restored, the Farmhouse showcases MacKenzie-Childs designs in a variety of traditional interiors. Daily guided tours take you through 15 rooms on three floors, each one a design inspiration! Prior to your departure, you must spend some time in the gift shop, an experience you’ll never forget. The historic Village of Aurora is just one mile south of MacKenzie-Childs. Enjoy lunch on the lakeside porch (weather permitting) at the exquisitely restored Aurora Inn and don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful collection of paintings. A brief stop at Wells College will allow you to view the breathtaking glass in the chapel and the famous Russell / Martindale Meserole stained-glass window in Macmillan Hall.
