Explore NY Arts - Tiffany and More

Explore NY Arts - Tiffany & More Cayuga County is home to one of the most unique and fascinating displays of Tiffany work known to man. Louis Comfort Tiffany made his mark on the world right in Auburn, with the Willard Chapel. Our wish for you, is to enjoy a portion of the arts world you may never have taken the time to visit Arrival Day: We will plan on your mid-day arrival in Auburn, New York and start with the Willard Memorial Chapel. The Chapel interior showcases 14 opalescent nave windows, a nine-paneled Rose window, nine Mooresque-styled chandeliers, a large mosaic bronze and gilt tablet, hand-carved furnishings of oak inlaid a ceiling with gold leaf stencils and extensive mosaic flooring. This is the only complete chapel interior known to exist featuring a total religious Louis Comfort Tiffany design! Another Tiffany treasure awaits at Westminster Presbyterian Church which offers a look at a beautiful 1910 landscape window by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The Rainbow Window is a prime example of Tiffany's landscape windows, rare among religious commissions and considered his supreme achievements in stained glass. Our last stop prior to checking in will be the Cayuga Museum of History and Art where we will find a Tiffany Stained Glass Window as part of the historic mansion, commissioned by Caroline and Georgiana Willard. Check in at your host hotel and freshen up for dinner. Dinner tonight is at the historic Springside Inn where you will enjoy a delightful meal and a great view from the porch. Day Two: After breakfast, we’ll head south for a visit to The Aurora area, starting at MacKenzie-Childs, maker of world-renown majolica tableware, home furnishings and more. You will start with the video tour in the visitors’ center, where a 15 minute presentation takes you behind the scenes as you follow these talented artisans in the step by step creation of a signature MacKenzie-Childs piece. Next, tour the farmhouse … exquisitely restored, the farmhouse showcases MacKenzie-Childs designs in a variety of traditional interiors. Daily guided tours take you through 15 rooms on three floors, each one a design inspiration! Prior to your departure, you must spend some time in the gift shop, an experience you’ll never forget. The historic Village of Aurora is just one mile south of MacKenzie-Childs. Enjoy lunch on the lakeside porch (weather permitting) at the exquisitely restored Aurora Inn; don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful collection of paintings. A brief stop at Wells College will allow you to view the breathtaking glass in the chapel and the famous Russell / Martindale Meserole stained-glass window in Macmillan Hall. After a quick stop at the hotel to freshen up, we will head north for a leisurely drive to Fair Haven, a quiet and peaceful community along the southern coast of Lake Ontario on the Seaway Trail, a nationally designated scenic byway. Enjoy browsing through quaint shops in this small village, including a visit to the Fly by Night Cookie Company…unbelievable cookies (dessert twice tonight J ) and a very unusual porch. From there, dinner is served on the porch at Pleasant Beach Hotel where they ask the question, ”Is it possible for the sunset to be too spectacular?” Enjoy a relaxed drive back to your hotel and a great night’s sleep. Sunday offers time for a last look around before heading back home.
