| Get your glass to Corning!
Steuben County famous for many things, can lay claim to an amazing heritage and history in the world of glass. The world famous Corning Museum of Glass is but a part of this heritage with other names standing out likes T.G.Hawkes & Company, Hoare & Daily and H.P. Sinclair to name a few. This journey will immerse you into a portion of the arts world you may never have taken time to visit, and in Corning …..It’s all about “hands on” experiences! Our wish is for you to take just a moment, to sit on our front porches while you enjoy a cup of tea and a memorable conversation … enjoy dinner, taste wine or simply watch the world go by!
Arrival Day: We will plan on your mid-day arrival in Corning, New York and start with a visit at the World Famous Corning Museum of Glass. This will be an experience you’ll not soon forget as you watch glassblowers work their magic. Time will allow for a self guided tour along with time to enjoy the museum, where you can see one of the largest collections of glass in the world. You will have time to shop in the gift shop and view the beautiful Steuben Ware and don’t forget to check out the Tiffany Window! Your experience heightens as you participate in a “hands on experience”, where you will personally make one glass piece to take home.
From here we’ll let you get checked in at Hillcrest Manor. Hillcrest was built in 1890 by George Abbott, a partner in the Hoare Glass Company. This neoclassic mansion is filled with antiques, glass art and western art and is truly a museum in itself.
Take time to freshen up – then head for historic Market Street in Corning’s Gaffer District. You can browse the many glass and antique shops at your leisure, watch artisans at work and enjoy the galleries and museums. Your Gaffer District gift certificates are good at any of the amazing restaurants Corning has to offer whenever the urge for dinner strikes. You have no schedule to keep tonight so enjoy a nightcap or some local entertainment prior to turning in.
Day Two: Start your day with a full breakfast and we’ll start your journey started with a glass blowing demonstration and tour at Hand On Glass Studio. Let Rodi and her staff show you the unique and special pieces they feature, then…before you leave try your hand at blowing an ornament! Then its off for a day of adventure and fun. We’ll make a quick stop at Antiques at the Establishment, a multi dealer antique shop located in an 1868 former church graced with Tiffany studio windows. From there you’ll get a breathtaking view of the Tiffany designed, First Presbyterian Church in Bath, New York – one of only four in the United States whose interior is completely designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. A Short drive to Hammondsport will find you lunching on the porch (weather permitting) at Snug Harbour overlooking beautiful Keuka Lake. After lunch, enjoy a walk through the square enjoying the many small shops … then, we’ll venture up the hill to enjoy wine tasting at Bully Hill Vineyards, Heron Hill Vineyard and Dr. Franks … all with amazing porches and breathtaking views. After a drive past the “famous” Keuka Lake overlook described by British Airways as one of the worlds best 10 views and a run around the northern end of the lake… a leisurely drive down the east side of Keuka Lake will bring us back to our Hammondsport and dinner at The Village Tavern prior to returning to the hotel for the evening.
Day Three: Starts with breakfast and as you prepare to head home. Time permitting; you can make one more pass down Market Street. Our goal is to assist you in finding other stops of interest on your trip home … and, we look forward to your return!
